What happens to our thoughts?
50,000 thoughts a day!?
Although I have read a lot of variable numbers on how many thoughts we have each day, there are no reliable scientific results that I could find and share with you, to say how many thoughts we actually have each day. All I do know, is that we have an enormous amount of thoughts flowing constantly through our minds every day.
We can't even see them, or remember most of them at the end of the day.
But their effects are enormous.
Try to stop thinking for just a second....
It is hard. That's because we have so many thoughts -all day and night.
So what are these conscious thoughts responsible for in my life?
Thought, Speech, Action. (TSA)
I have put TSA into 3 categories to make it easy to monitor.
Thoughts often come naturally to us, and we often don't give them "much thought"!
What we do with our thoughts can really affect our quality of life.
Our mind has a great affect on our body and emotions.
Can our emotions change our minds? I believe that it is our minds first. Emotions follow.
I also think they work in harmony.
If you think about a friend, then you will likely feel positive emotions.
Similarly, if you know that you are having a meeting with a difficult person or topic, then you will usually feel very different emotions.
Our thoughts create our reality.
I believe that what we think can then lead to how we speak about a thought.
We often act out of our personal beliefs and thoughts.
So, if I had a positive meeting with my manager at work, I will usually think thoughts that my work is going well. I will speak about work in a positive way, and my actions will usually translate in being more productive at work, and feeling appreciated. I will usually act in a way that reflects that I am happy.
In contrast, if my thoughts are that I hate being at work, my meeting with my manager is filled with complaints by them, then I will usually speak in a way that brings down my mood, my emotions will be more negative, my stress and anger will probably rise, and so on. My environment, and my attitude will usually reflect my negativity. My thoughts will often show in my facial expressions, and body language. Perhaps bent over, and feeling dejected. Not a good way to be.
How can you master your thoughts?
By knowing that your thoughts create your reality, you can with practice and time, and concerted effort, change the way you habitually think.
Is Positive thought a habit?
In some people it is.
They have the wonderful ability to see the best in every situation.
Not many of us are born to think like that.
For the rest of us, me included, it is a learning process.
The benefit of mastering your thoughts is that you can have more influence over your quality of life to be the best it can be. You are also implementing self-care. Good for your physical and mental wellbeing.
There are stresses in every day life. No arguing here.
What you can do about them is two-fold.
Firstly, can you change anything in a situation that is happening to you? If so, aim to do so. Get help if you need it too.
If the situation is out of your control, then acknowledge that too. Talk to a professional if you need to get some perspective or help too.
If you are aware that your thoughts are spiralling downwards, aim to stop the thoughts yourself. (Literally saying Stop can have a good result here too.)
Very often one can have thoughts that sound to be true to ourselves but in reality they are untrue.
Change the language of your previous thought. Change it to be more objective and re-frame it to be more positive.
Say, someone did not return your call or text. Instead of thinking that they no longer like you, or care about you, re-frame to think that they might be busy. They have returned calls/texts in the past.
By thinking that you are ok, your speech and actions will be more positive. You will likely feel better too. Your thinking is clearer and so the cycle continues.
If you need to be creative at work, your thoughts will definitely influence your output.
Your thoughts translate into your speech in how you deliver your thoughts and ideas.
Your actions in undertaking your ideas will be filled with positive energy. You will feel motivated. You can inspire and motivate others too.
You can then aim to achieve your goal.
No one is forcing you to think a certain way. Thankfully.
If you are aware of what you are thinking, you are in a strong position to influence the power of your thoughts and how you speak and act following on from this concept.
Meditation is praised so much as it is one form that encourages and promotes the process of slowing the mind down, and slowing the whirlwind of thoughts that spin through our minds.
Meditation also slows the body down. Good for lowering our blood pressure and more.
I only want to highlight one of the ways to slow our conscious thinking.
The world is made up of a myriad of living things. Plants, animals, humans.
Animals have intelligence. Many animals have very high intelligence.
But they don't have freedom of choice.
As humans, we have the freedom of choice, and the freedom of choice of thoughts.
Be clear in your thinking,
speak with positivity, and
act with passion, courage and inspiration.
Love should be the undercurrent of your thoughts, speech, and action.
By using the TSA concept of thought, speech, action, you can think thoughts that support your wellbeing.
Your thoughts flow onto your speech, which affect your actions.
You do have an amazing amount of control and influence over the type of thoughts that you have each moment. Ensure that they support you.
Think clearly. Be rested. Get enough sleep, so that tiredness is not an issue affecting your thoughts in a negative way. If it is late and you need sleep, do so.
Write your thoughts down to eliminate worrying about remembering them in the morning.
Psychologists and other health professionals are set up to assist you if you have concerns that are not being managed by your efforts.
It is strong to ask for help. That is their job.
If you needed help with a burst pipe, you would ask for help very quickly. So ensure you get help for the most important person in your life - you.
When you think clearly, you are at the optimum position to help those around you. Your family, friends, and at work.
Move forward with your thoughts, speech, and action in positive alignment and feel the difference as you incorporate a better way of thinking, which will lead to a better way of life.
